At time of writing, I am in fear that I may be falling into some sort of depression. If it's not obvious from the rest of the site, I'm an American. My whole life I was given the ideas of what America was meant to be, a country dedicated to representing the people who live in it, a nation of immigrants in search of a better future. As I've grown, I've come to know that not everyone here seems to believe in that vision, and despite that, those people are usually the ones who call themselves "patriots" the loudest. Today, July 3rd, 2025, I watched as the dream of America as held by it poorest, hardest-working inhabitants, was sold. And that dream bought us a massive secret police force, Billionares the potential to become Trillionares, concentration camps, and an obscene amount of extra debt.
To add on, I live in Nebraska. In the lead-up to the votes on Trump's Self-satisfaction bill, I tried to call my representative in the House, Mike Flood. The first time was after hours, because I work evenings and didn't have time during the day. I gave him a voicemail. Earlier today I called again, before the votes were finalized. That time, I got no voicemail, and no one picked up. My call to my representative was declined entirely. The only way I could think of to make my voice heard, if only a little, was denied outright. 78 thousand people in Nebraska will no longer have healthcare now, and a representative of one-third of the state couldn't be bothered to listen to them. I didn't try the senators, but that's because I already knew that both Ricketts and Fischer are absolute do-nothings that would break down if they ever had to make a decision that didn't have party lines to follow. I wanted to believe that someone in the federal government would be willing to fight for its people, only to be let down.
I'm going to write this out so that I and anyone I know won't forget this: They're going to try to push this onto the Democrats. That bill's effects are going to happen in stages, many of which will not be in full effect until after the midterms or even after the next president is in office. I know this because they did it before to Biden. They think that America is stupid enough to never follow the causes back. So far in my life, they have been right, but I'm hoping to create change about that this time.
So I'm not going to shut up about this over the next few years, because while I feel beaten down right now, I refuse to be broken. America can still have a future, it doesn't have to be like this, but that change has to start NOW.
